Entertainment!  That’s what this music business is all about; and that is what Jab is all about.

Born Joseph Gamache in Flint, Mi on Jun 13 1983, Jab was always an entertainer and he always loved music. While his first love was rock n roll, his older sister exposed him to hip hop music at a young age. Immediately he became obsessed with the sounds of artists like Snoop, N.W.A., Nas, LL Cool J and many others. At first he started out by memorizing other people’s songs, but by the age of 11 Jab was writing his own rhymes. One time he even got in trouble at school for writing a dirty rap and accidentally leaving it behind in class for his teacher to discover.  But music wasn’t the only thing that got Jab in trouble at school. He was always the class clown and was always cracking jokes and pulling crazy stunts everywhere he went.

Throughout most of his childhood he lived with his dad in Flushing, but halfway through 9th grade he moved in with his mom who lived out in the country. Since there was not much to do, Jab really kicked his writing into high gear and began filling up notebooks at light speed. But it wasn’t until his mother moved to Flint that Jab started to get known in the hip hop community. At 17 he began entering in freestyle battles and crushing opponents with his clever wordplay and powerful delivery. He would go on to win 14 freestyle battles at JB’s nightclub in Flint, solidifying himself as an elite lyricist and a top prospect in the game. At the same time Jab was also recording with local artists like 211 & Devious Doc and labels like Layin-Low Entertainment and Big City Records. He would also win several rap contests, both on the radio and in clubs.

At the age of 21 Jab was one o f the most well known artists in the city of Flint, but he had yet to put out a CD. Then, through a mutual acquaintance, Jab was introduced to Dave Kelly (former President of Blackhaus Records, FunkStreet). After working together for less than two months, Jab signed an artist development deal with FrontStreet Records and began working on his first CD. The CD, entitled “I just look like this,” showed many different sides of Jab and helped him to be recognized for more than just freestyling.

A born hustler, Jab would sell over 1,000 CD’s out of the trunk as well as in the retailers and gain new fans everywhere he went.  His music would also chart on several record pools and receive rotation on many radio stations.

Jab also received recognition from live performances. His resume includes opening up for Too Short as well as performing all over Michigan and anywhere else there was a crowd. And if there wasn’t a crowd; Jab would draw one! During his in-stores at FYE, Jab entertained crowds by having people write down a word on a piece of paper and placing it in a box. Then, Jab would put on a beat and freestyle using these words in his rhyme without ever seeing the words beforehand.

Besides “I just look like this” and the 2 Show n Prove mixtapes, you can witness Jab’s skills on several tracks from the FrontStreet Records Compilation series and on many internet sites such as www. Frontstreetrecords.com. To describe JabberJaw’s music in words would really be difficult because he is never stuck on one style, or even one name. Changing into his alter ego’s Mr. Berjaw and J Jay, Jab is really schizophrenic when it comes to his music.  Switching from serious to carefree at the drop of a dime JabberJaw possesses enough character and charisma to entertain even the toughest crowds. And if you don’t like JabberJaw at first, just give him a second!
